Last week we put together a list of Halloween themed cocktails to try out and select our favourites to be featured at this year’s Halloween Party. We narrowed it down to five spooky cocktails and shots: Black Widow, The Ghostbuster, Skeleton Key, Wolf’s Bite, and Dracula’s Kiss.
Black Widow is a dark spin on a classic cocktail. A cranberry and vodka made with Blavod black vodka which swirls around in the glass like a dark mist. Simple but delicious and downright eerie!
The Ghostbuster was the first shot we tried and was quickly added to our featured cocktail list. A combination of peach and melon liqueurs create the ghoulish green background for the ghostly figures that appear once the Irish cream is dropped in. It’s the sweetest haunting (in flavour and temperament) this Halloween season.
Skeleton Key is fantastically creepy with the red of the bitters trickling down through this pale cocktail. The Skeleton Key is a bourbon-based cocktail with elderflower liqueur, fresh lemon juice, and ginger beer all topped with several hearty dashes of bitters. (To get the full punch of the bitters flavour you can skip the straw and drink strait from the glass, however, most will probably prefer to use the straw.) If the morbid visual is this cocktail’s Mr. Hyde the flavour is its Dr. Jekyll.
Wolf’s Bite was the second shot we selected and, like a werewolf in human form, this sweet shot has a sinister spirit hiding. Made with melon liqueur, pineapple, and the sweet taste of grenadine with a little soda sparkle you almost miss the absinthe bite!
Dracula’s Kiss is made of cherry vodka, grenadine, and cola. Dracula’s Kiss may taste like a harmless Shirley Temple but it’s definitely not; tall, dark, dangerous, and deceptively charming this cocktail was appropriately named.
